Sprite

My Product 


I've chosen Sprite as my product because it's popular drink. I want to see what's in it and what we're drinking. Sprite has been in the market since 1989.

The ingredients I've chosen for this product are Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Sodium Benzoate.
  1. Citric Acid 
  • Chemical name: 2-hydroxypropane-1
  • Chemical formula: C6H801
  • Health effect: Does not harm, unless you overdose includes stomach cramps or pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, loss of appetite, increased sweating and swelling, and pain in the abdominal or stomach area.
  • Citric Acid is derived from an acid found in many citrus fruits.
  • Physical properties: Crytalline powder, oderless 
  • Chemical properties:  citric acid shares the properties of other carboxylic acids. When heated above 175 °C, it decomposes through the loss of carbon dioxide and water.
  • Purpose in this product is to add a sour taste to the drink.
2. Malic Acid 
  • Chemical name: 2-hydroxybutanedioic acid
  • Chemical formula: C4H605 
  • Health effect: Not proven safe, reduce blood pressure, increase weight gain and change eating habits.
  • It is a dicarboxylic acid that is made by all living organisms, contributes to the pleasantly sour taste of fruits, and is used as a food additive.
  • Physical properties: odorless
  • chemical properties:130 °C melting point 
  • Purpose in the product is used as an additive.
3. Sodium Benzoate
  • Chemical name: E211
  • Chemical formula: NaC7H5O2
  • Health effect: has the ability to deprive the cells of oxygen, break down the immune system and cause cancer.
  • Sodium benzoate is a salt derived from benzoic acid.
  • Physical properties: Colorless, Odorless.
  • Chemical properties: Soluble in liquid
  • Used in the product as a preservative.
